column_border_width=&#8221;none&#8221; column_border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;][vc_column_text]<b>CROSSING THE FREEWAY<\/b>\u00a0is a one-hour dance performance for seven dancers, accompanied by an interactive video installation, into which the audience is invited to walk and change perspectives. CROSSING THE FREEWAY confronts the audience with the emotional-physical level of migration and escape movements triggered by the multiple crises of our days &#8211; in particular those caused by the capitalist relations of society and nature in Western industrialized countries. Staged in an abstract form, CROSSING THE FREEWAY develops a minimalist movement language that opens up a wide range of reception and interpretation possibilities for the audience, while still managing to keep an eye on the individual experiences underlying the abstraction. In the run-up to the production, Kosmas Kosmopoulos and other project participants collected testimonials of children and their families who had fled and emigrated to Berlin. Together with the thematic experiences of the artists involved in the project, this material was the starting point for the development of the dance performance. Referring to the way society deals with migration and escape, the abstraction of the experiences in CROSSING THE FREEWAY into isolated movement sequences also leads to an impersonal visual language that initially always seems the same and to which it is difficult to relate. Performed over and over again, however, the audience cannot help but sharpen their perception for details in the movement sequences and recognize the individual. Observing this movement language is exhausting, the narrative expectation is not fulfilled, an end is not foreseeable.
